As the New Year’s Eve hangover starts to subside, the reality that January and the start of normality is coming begins to set in. The festive season is over and there’s no escaping the blues… or is there?

Cape Town, South Africa
January is the best time to visit South Africa: not only will you be greeted with warm weather but there’ll be little or no rainfall to disrupt your travels. Cape Town offers incredible food and wine, all against the beautiful backdrop of the mighty Table Mountain. You can lay on the white beaches, swim in the sea, explore the city culture and get out into the countryside for walking and other activities. The nearby Kruger National Park offers the chance for a safari and wildlife adventure too. During January, the Galileo Open Air Cinema is returning, with over 110 movies being screened throughout the month across 37 venues. Be sure to join the locals by pulling up a blanket and a bag of popcorn.
Montreal’s annual Igloofest takes place in January, and joins crowds and acts from across the world. Running from 17th January – 2nd February, the Igloofest is a unique experience for any festival goers because of the sub-zero temperatures. Headlining this year is Bonobo, Diplo, Four Tet and many more acts. Montreal is an amazing destination in its own right, with a lively culture that has a packed calendar throughout the year, so there’s something for everyone in January outside of the Festival days.
Looking for paradise after a busy December? Jamaica is the answer to all your prayers. With dry evenings and endless sunshine, January is a fantastic time to visit the island and feel completely in paradise. The clear tropical waters and lush mountains offer outdoor adventure in abundance. January’s temperatures are always high, with an average of 25˚C, so you can explore the landscape or chill on the beach comfortably. However, the transport between each destination is easy to navigate and to experience Cape Verde in full its wise to spend some days island hopping and seeing the different towns and wildlife. Gothenburg often goes unnoticed in the shadow of its big sister, and Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, yet many travelers that visit leave loving it more. Its smaller size makes it easier to navigate; you can explore most of its top sights and hidden corners on foot. This January, Gothenburg is hosting a number of exciting festivals and events. Firstly, the MyDog Exhibition, at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre, offers everything you need for your dog or a dog you plan on getting in the future. Later in the month is the Gothenburg Film Festival, that’s been running since 1979 and showcases films from over 80 countries. IF you fancy something a little different, visit the “Bad Film Festival” at the Bio Roy, where there’ll be endless screenings of the best bad films of all time.
